Commissariat à l’Energie Atomique et aux Energies Alternatives

The French Alternative Energies and Atomic Energy Commission (CEA) is a key player in research, development and innovation in four main areas:

  • defence and security,
  • low carbon energies (nuclear and renewable energies),
  • technological research for industry,
  • fundamental research in the physical sciences and life sciences.

CEA is a major player in the high performance computing and quantum computing value chain, from fundamental and technological research to applications. CEA operates world-class HPC infrastructures, and develops and exploits large HPC applications together with numerous scientific and industrial partners.

Role within HPCQS

Within the HPCQS project, CEA will integrate, deploy and exploit an emulator environment (Quantum Learning Machine) then a quantum simulator, at TGCC supercomputing centre, whereas Quantum Information Team from Institut de Physique Théorique will contribute to use cases and demonstrators in the areas of certification/performance analysis for Quantum Simulators, QAOA, and VQE.

Our vision for HPCQS

Mandated by the French National Quantum Strategy, CEA plans to host the French Hybrid HPC Quantum infrastructure. CEA will leverage its participation in HPCQS: 1. to extend this infrastructure to European partners and make sure that Europe is a leader in quantum computing technologies, 2. for upfront exploration and preparation of hybrid HPC+quantum computing benchmarks and applications.
